Reiki
What is Reiki?
Rei means "Universal" and Ki means "life force energy" Its full meaning is "Universal Life Force Energy." Reiki is a Japanese healing practice and a complementary energy therapy grounded in the idea that all things in the universe are made up of energy that circulates around and within living beings.
This practice suggests that any disruptions in this energy flow can lead to health issues. Reiki aims to restore balance by channeling the energy received from the universe back to the individual.
During a Reiki session your practitioner will place their hands in a series of positions either on or slightly above the body. Both are effective and it is the clients choice. Many of my clients prefer hands on as it helps them feel the connection more. I never place hands on in the breast or pelvic areas or on the buttocks.
During a Reiki session, the client is fully clothed (except for shoes) and lies on a massage table. The session usually lasts about 60 minutes. I also offer a 90 minute or 2 hour Mind - Body - Spirit session where you can experience both Reiki and Vibrational Sound Therapy or a Sound Bath/Meditation. Before each session we will take the time to connect so you know what to expect.

“Reiki is love. Love is wholeness. Wholeness is balance. Balance is well being. Well being is freedom from disease.” Dr. Mikao Usui
“Understanding Reiki: A Holistic Approach to Healing” - How it can help support mental health and wellbeing.
Below is an excerpt from an amazing article written by and posted on 9/1/2024 by the Reiki Healing Association. I did not write this information but felt it truly is the best description and information about Reiki that I have found to date. I am sharing as I felt it would be really helpful for those who do not know about Reiki. (find entire article here)
“Reiki, a holistic healing practice, has garnered significant attention for its potential to support mental health and general well-being. Originating in Japan, Reiki was developed by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century as a method to harness universal life energy for healing purposes. The word “Reiki” itself is derived from two Japanese terms: “Rei,” meaning universal, and “Ki,” representing life energy. This practice revolves around the concept that life energy flows through all living beings and can be channeled to promote healing and balance.
The fundamental principles of Reiki emphasize the importance of harmonizing the body’s energy centers, known as chakras. Practitioners believe that imbalances or blockages in these energy centers can lead to physical, emotional, and mental ailments. Through a series of hand placements, either directly on or just above the body, a Reiki practitioner channels life energy to various parts of the recipient’s body, aiming to dissolve these blockages and restore equilibrium. This process is intended to stimulate the body’s natural healing capabilities, encourage relaxation, and reduce stress.
Reiki sessions are typically tranquil experiences, providing recipients with a sense of peace and deep relaxation. Many individuals report feeling warmth or tingling sensations during treatments, which they attribute to the flow of energy. While scientific evidence on Reiki’s efficacy remains mixed, numerous anecdotal accounts and qualitative studies have highlighted its benefits in managing stress, reducing anxiety, and promoting a state of overall wellness.
Furthermore, Reiki’s holistic nature means it considers the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit. By focusing on the entirety of a person rather than isolated symptoms, Reiki offers a complementary approach to traditional medical treatments. This makes it a valuable tool in the broader context of mental health support, particularly in times when nurturing mental resilience and emotional well-being is pivotal.
Reiki, an ancient Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation, has garnered attention for its potential benefits to mental health. By channeling energy through the hands of the practitioner, Reiki aims to promote physical and emotional healing. Many individuals have reported experiencing a sense of calm, reduced anxiety, and improved emotional well-being after Reiki sessions. This alternative therapy is increasingly being considered as a complementary approach to conventional mental health treatments.
Research into the effectiveness of Reiki suggests that it may have a positive impact on mental health. A study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that participants who received Reiki sessions reported lower levels of stress and anxiety. The calming effect of Reiki could be attributed to the body’s natural relaxation response, which is activated during the session. This response can lower heart rates, reduce muscle tension, and foster a sense of inner peace.
Moreover, Reiki’s role in emotional well-being should not be underestimated. Individuals struggling with depression have also reported beneficial effects from Reiki. The holistic nature of Reiki allows it to address not only the symptoms but also the root causes of emotional distress. By fostering a deeper connection between the mind and body, Reiki can enhance self-awareness and promote emotional resilience.”
Why do a session with Phyllis?
Reiki can be done virtually or in person.
Some of the benefits of having a Reiki session with me are:
I incorporate singing bowls and a grounding session into your Reiki session so you get the benefit of both modalities. You can also do a Reiki session followed by a Vibrational Sound Therapy or Sound Bath for a full mind, body, spirit immersive experience. The Reiki and Vibrational Sound Therapy session is my most popular session.
I spend the necessary time to get to know you first. I want to know more about you, and why you are seeking Reiki and the healing energy. This will help us to make it the best possible experience for you. This also gives you a personal connection with your practitioner so you feel safe, supported and can experience the benefits of Reiki on an even deeper level. You can ask questions and we can figure out together what it is that you want to work on.
I am trained in trauma informed care with the motto of “do no harm” therefore I will always be mindful of this during all sessions with all clients.
